Terasen,
a wholly owned subsidiary, is the principal natural gas distribution utility in
British Columbia. Its service territory includes the populous lower mainland,
Vancouver Island and the interior of the province. The Company serves 931,400
customers, or 96 per cent of gas users in the province, and met a peak
day demand of 1,402 terajoules in 2008.
FortisAlberta,
a wholly owned subsidiary, is a distribution utility providing electricity in
central and southern Alberta. The Company serves approximately 461,000 customers
and met a peak demand of 3,150 megawatts ("MW") in 2008.
FortisBC,
a wholly owned subsidiary, is an integrated electric utility operating in the
southern interior of British Columbia. The Company serves more than 157,000
direct and indirect customers and met a record peak demand of 746 MW in 2008.
Newfoundland Power,
a wholly owned subsidiary, operates an integrated generation, transmission and
distribution system in Newfoundland. The Company serves approximately 236,000
customers in the province and met a peak demand of 1,181 MW in 2008.
Other Canadian operations include the wholly owned subsidiaries
Maritime Electric and
FortisOntario which serve approximately 125,000
customers on Prince Edward Island and in southeastern Ontario. The Companies
met a combined peak demand of 450 MW in 2008.

Belize Electricity,
an approximate 70 per cent owned subsidiary, is the main commercial generator, transmitter
and distributor of electricity in Belize, Central America. The Company serves
approximately 74,000 customers in Belize and met a peak demand of 74 MW in
2008.
Caribbean Utilities
, an approximate 57 per cent owned subsidiary, generates, distributes, transmits and
supplies electricity on Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. The Company serves more
than 24,000 customers and met a record peak demand of 94 MW in 2008.
Fortis Turks and Caicos
generates and transmits electricity to more than 9,000 customers on the islands
of Providenciales, Pine Cay, North Caicos, Middle Caicos, South Caicos and Dellis Cay and
met a combined peak demand of 29 MW in 2008.
Fortis Generation includes the
operations of non-regulated generating assets across Canada and in Belize and
upper New York State. The generating capacity of these assets is 195 MW, 190 MW
of which is hydroelectric generation.
Fortis Properties,
a wholly owned non-utility subsidiary, owns and operates hotels in 8 provinces in
Canada and commercial real estate primarily in Atlantic Canada. Its
holdings include 21 hotels with more than 4,000 rooms and approximately
2.8 million square feet of commercial real estate.
