Fortis Inc. Files Final Shelf Prospectus

Fortis Inc. ("Fortis" or the "Corporation") (TSX:FTS) announced today that it has obtained a receipt for a final short form base shelf prospectus dated May 10, 2012 (the "Prospectus") which was filed with securities regulators in each of the provinces of Canada. The Prospectus allows Fortis to offer from time to time over a 25-month period up to $1.3 billion (or the equivalent in US dollars or other currencies) of common shares, first preference shares, second preference shares, subscription receipts, unsecured debentures or any combination thereof.
