2025 Year in Review

Powering Growth & Innovation

Powering Growth & Innovation

We’re building stronger, smarter energy networks that put customers first and fuels the economic growth of the communities we serve. By modernizing our transmission and distribution grids, deploying new technologies, and connecting new sources of energy, we’re meeting rising demand in ways that deliver lasting value for people and local economies.

Expanding Transmission and Distribution

Transmission enables reliable energy systems and drives future growth and modernization. With 95% of our assets in transmission and distribution, we are making significant investments to advance this critical infrastructure.

ITC Holdings Powering the Future

As the largest independent transmission company in the U.S., ITC Holdings is helping power the grid of the future. Its record $9.8‑billion five-year capital plan expands critical interconnections, including the Big Cedar Load Expansion Project, which will power two Iowa data centres. The plan also advances the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) long‑range transmission plan (LRTP) and key baseline reliability projects. ITC also anticipates capital investment of US$3.3–$3.8 billion for tranche 2.1 LRTP projects beyond its five-year plan. Additionally, any projects awarded to ITC as a result of competitive bidding processes and potential customer connections tied to 8,000 MW of load growth for proposed data centre and economic development projects would be incremental.

Delivering. Strengthening. Connecting.

Fortis delivered one of its strongest reliability performances in 2025, providing customers with the energy they need 99.9% of the time. We also advanced vital energy projects that will strengthen resilience for years to come.

Average Electricity Customer Outage Duration (Hours)

(1) Average SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index) for 2025 across all Fortis operating companies, excluding major events.

(2) Average industry SAIDI for the 2022–2024 period, excluding major events, from Electricity Canada and the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Tilbury LNG Storage Expansion

FortisBC’s Tilbury LNG Storage Expansion Project will strengthen British Columbia’s energy resilience by installing a new, higher‑capacity storage tank to replace the existing facility. This upgrade will bolster the system’s ability to meet peak demand and ensure a dependable backup supply during extreme weather events or other emergencies. FortisBC is advancing this work in close collaboration with Indigenous partners, including the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Indian Band.

Data Centre Agreement and TEP

Data centres have become vital drivers of economic growth and digital security, and can help keep electricity more affordable by spreading fixed costs across a larger customer base. In December, Tucson Electric Power (TEP) received approval from the Arizona Corporation Commission to provide electricity to a planned data centre, supporting an initial load of approximately 300 megawatts, with future expansion subject to future regulatory approvals. The agreement includes strong customer protections to ensure the project pays its own way and doesn’t compromise reliable, affordable service.

Innovating for Customers and Communities

Through the Fortis Innovation Network and partnerships with industry and startups, we’re shaping the future of energy delivery with a customer‑first focus. We’re using AI and new technologies to enhance customer experience, advance safety, and increase operational efficiency.

AI in Action Across Fortis

Fortis companies are leveraging artificial intelligence to make smarter decisions, automate complex processes, and improve efficiency. AI is enhancing vegetation management, strengthening cybersecurity and data analysis, enabling remote inspections of power lines, and delivering more responsive, personalized customer service. Newfoundland Power’s award‑winning virtual assistant is just one example. Alex is a 24/7 generative‑AI tool that provides real‑time support for account inquiries, outage updates, and FAQs. As one of the first Canadian utilities to deploy generative AI in this way, Alex is transforming how customers get information and setting a new benchmark for service innovation.

GIS Team Earns Top Innovator Award

ITC’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Engineering Data team was recognized with the Charles Steinmetz Top Innovator Award from Public Utilities Fortnightly for their groundbreaking GIS high-impact applications. By turning complex data into simple, intuitive visuals, the team reimagined tools across the company to help ITC act faster and respond more effectively. In a short time, they delivered several valuable applications—from a real-time Wildfire Mitigation Dashboard and an enhanced Outage Tracker to mobile tools that support property protection and customer relations.
